As a photographer, I’m always on the lookout to ’see’ an interesting photo.  In this ongoing quest to capture things I find interesting, it’s all too easy to overlook some of the most important and most interesting photographic subjects around me because of familiarity. I forget that things which are familiar to me might not necessarily be familiar to everyone else.  When something is shiny and new, I notice everything about it, but when I see something often I start taking it for granted.  This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  We all assume the floor is underneath us every …more

Around the tail end of 2008, a diverse group of Merseyside-based photographers found each other through the power of Flickr and decided they wanted to work together as a collective and put on an exhibition to showcase their work and also the city which brought them together.

Through the months that followed, much discussion took place both online and in real life together.  Through a great team effort, this has resulted in the formation of the Fab Collective and the booking of St. Luke’s church for an exhibition in August 2009.

Since its birth, the Fab Colective have undertaken a number of …more

Where does the time go?  There is so much going on in my life right now that there’s barely time to stop and take photos of the roses.  January has been a total blur.  Post-Christmas means back to work and it also means spending some time working on the house to get it into a saleable state.

On Sunday, I attended my first Flickr group meet-up in Liverpool city centre with some fellow Merseyside photographers.  It was even more of an event because I finally got to meet a couple who I’ve chatted online with for quite a while now. [Hi Sarah & Dave!]

A small number of us met for a tapas lunch which was very tasty and then went onto the German Christmas market that was being held in the city centre for a quick photo session.

I’m not used to taking candid shots or street photography so it made a change for me.  As did shooting …more

Given the vast resource that flickr must have behind it, you’d think they’d fix whatever keeps breaking…

When photographers use avatars in forum profiles, why are they, more often than not, photos of themselves taking a photo of themselves in a mirror? You know, that classic hold the camera in portrait format and… Click!

Seriously… Is there anything more corny?
